Day 1 8 am- Kick Off Chat Room with Heather and Laura B

I began the day with a welcome meeting at 8 am via the Kick Off Chat Room, attended by Heather, Laura B., and fellow Rebel members. I appreciated the opportunity to engage in conversations with other Rebels, as such interactions are seldom possible. I reside in an area where there is no nearby rebellion, and the one I participate in covers a large geographical region in the North East of England. Consequently, I have not been able to attend in-person meetings, as I live too far from Newcastle city center, where most of the gatherings are held.

9am- Welcome from Charly, Chief Rebel then Belly dancing with Helen.

The event commenced with a welcome from Charly, the Chief Rebel, followed by an energetic belly dancing session led by Helen to stimulate enthusiasm and increase circulation. This initial activity successfully prepared everyone for a weekend of engaging and enjoyable activities at Rebel Fest.

10:15am- sign language choir with Penny and Lucy.

I appreciated participating in the sign language choir with Penny and Lucy. I am enthusiastic about learning sign language, as I previously communicated using sign language during my childhood before I developed speech. This experience rekindled memories from my earlier years and my involvement in the Makaton choir at school.

11:30am- Sushi with Rachel- some prep was required.

    Sushi rolls
    My poke bowl

I thoroughly enjoyed this season, particularly the opportunity to prepare sushi. Although I was unable to create traditional sushi due to the lack of appropriate equipment, I found value in improvising with the tools available. Instead, I prepared a poke bowl and some sushi rolls. This activity was my favorite part of Rebel Fest, as I have always aspired to learn how to make sushi.

2:45pm- Skill share breakout rooms which includes:Notion and Canva Skills- with Claire S

I thoroughly appreciated the training on Canva, as it was essential for my professional responsibilities at the time. Additionally, I found learning Notion to be valuable; it was a new application that I had not previously used. I am grateful to Claire for introducing me to it. A year later, she has become the patrol leader for Rosa Patrol. The session was for forty-five minutes.

3:45pm- Artist Trading Cards with Allyson

This was a college of the Artist Trading Cards I did for the season I really enjoyed the season.

This season was particularly artistically inclined, and I found it valuable to utilize this opportunity, as it allowed me to fulfill one of my obligations related to Rebel mail. I also enjoyed collaborating creatively with other members of the Rebel community, which has inspired me to pursue further creative endeavors. Currently, I am working on my craft badge and developing my writer’s badge, which is the reason I am maintaining this blog. My goal is to earn my writer’s badge and potentially establish my own accessibility travel blog in the future.

6pm- Talk by Sian and Makalia- Founder and coach of Bluetits cold swimming

This was an especially interesting and inspiring talk that covered innovative ideas and personal stories. Although I am unable to participate in this activity myself due to my disability, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the speaker’s insights and experiences.

    First Day of Rebel Fest

I felt unprepared for Rebel Fest, as I attempted to utilize items I already had at home instead of purchasing new ones specifically for the event. Additionally, I was somewhat underprepared for the sushi-making activity; consequently, I prepared a poke bowl instead, which proved to be equally enjoyable.

I enjoyed eggs with avocado for breakfast the next day for breakfast

    Day 2 of Rebel Fest

8am- Open chat room with Helen W

I began the day with a welcome meeting at 8 am, followed by a Kick-Off Chat Room session with Helen W. and fellow Rebel enthusiasts. I enjoyed engaging with other Rebels, as opportunities for such conversations are rare. I reside in an area where there are no nearby rebellions, and the one I am part of covers a large geographic area in the North East of England. Consequently, I have been unable to attend in-person meetups, as I live too far from the center of Newcastle, where most of the gatherings are held.

10:15am Craft and chat with Charly- bring your own Craft, sew on your badges or work on your scrapbooks while Charly dose Q&A

I found the Chief Rebel’s question-and-answer session to be informative, as it provided behind-the-scenes insights into recent activities at Rebel HQ. These details were unknown to me, as I was not part of the Rebel Council during the initial Rebel Fest.

2:45pm-Break out rooms Rebel Readers with Liz- Maurice and Marilyn

I appreciate participating in book clubs, which is why I decided to join the Rebel Fest book club. For those unfamiliar with Rebel Fest, the breakout rooms for book discussions operate in the same manner as the monthly book club meetings, with the addition of an extra session dedicated to Rebel Fest. I listened to the book via Apple Audio, and it has become one of my favorites. I particularly enjoy the setting, which takes place on a boat that becomes damaged, prompting the characters to collaborate to repair it. Overall, I would rate the book a solid 7 out of 10, considering its traditional style.

6:30pm to 9:15pm-RebelMaster with Sham and Mr Duck and Charly

This was one of the silly challenges that we had to do which was balance as many books as you can on your head.

Participating in this activity was challenging for me because one of the components required dressing up, which I am unable to do independently. I would have appreciated prior notice so that I could have requested my support worker to remain longer and assist me with the game.

    First Rebel done

I was too fatigued to participate in the debrief through Zoom, and due to work commitments the following day, I retired for the night. However, the entire weekend was exceptional, and I would recommend it to newcomers, supporters, and members of the Pirates of Rebel Badge Club, as it was outstanding. I was certainly considering purchasing the veteran ticket, as I intended to attend the next event, which was highly enjoyable. For now, I will wish everyone a good night. I look forward to the next gathering in six months.

For the first clause, we were instructed to conduct research on craftivism, which was the badge of the month. I utilized ChatGPT to assist with this task. Using ChatGPT is no longer permitted as it is a form of artificial intelligence; however, it was allowed at the time.

Regarding the environmental impacts of craftivism, I am already familiar with this subject due to my two-year involvement with the Groundwork Youth Advisory Board. It has been enlightening to consider how I can incorporate environmentally conscious practices into my hobby of craftivism, especially given that some materials used may be detrimental to the environment.

    2. Research the history of craftivism, including at least 3 prolific examples.

I took notes in my notebook, which I used to draft all the clauses related to badges and provide examples for each. This notebook belongs to the community of fellow Rebels, with whom we collaborate to complete clauses collectively.

    22. Watch craftivism- ‘making a difference video

To complete the badge, I viewed a YouTube video about craftivism. I had it playing in the background while having my dinner.

My pepperoni pizza bagel with a coffee while I watched the documentary on YouTube.
This is a screenshot of the video I watched on YouTube to demonstrate that I have viewed it.

This was not my preferred badge due to the extensive research required; however, not every badge is suitable for everyone. Overall, I would rate this badge a 5 out of 10. My lack of enthusiasm for research activities is reminiscent of my experiences during school days.

  • To be honest, I wasn’t sure where to start so my old support worker Susan said to pick the easiest one and that’s what I did but I wish that I didn’t. I feel like I hadn’t started this my way which is a real shame.

Make a cookbook with other Rebels containing your your favourite bakes.

    History of Victoria Sponge

Victoria sponge cake dates back to the 14th to 16th centuries, a period during which cake recipes transitioned from using yeast to beaten eggs as a leavening agent

The sponge cake widely enjoyed today was first invented in 1843 by an individual named Alfred Bird.

Anyone who’s watched The Great British Bake Off for a while knows that getting the perfect Victoria Sponge can be a hot topic. It gets even more interesting when trying to nail the right consistency and flavor, even though the main ingredients are just flour, sugar, eggs, and butter. Learn how to make a cake in the microwave.

This was me learning how to make a recipe in the microwave

The mug recipe resulted in a bland taste and a pile of mess on the plate. The following recipe was used:

Microwave Chocolate Cake in a Mug

This mug cake tastes like the best molten chocolate cake! The recipe uses both melted chocolate and cocoa powder so it’s extra chocolaty!

    Course Dessert

    Cuisine American

    Prep Time 3minutes minutes

    Cook Time 4minutes minutes

    Total Time 7minutes minutes

    Servings 1

    Calories 687kcal

    Author Stefani

    Equipment

    • ▢ Microwave-safe mug

    Ingredients

    • ▢ 14.17 g chocolate This could be a chocolate bar broken into pieces, chocolate squares, or a small handful of chocolate chips. Dark or milk chocolate both work.
    • ▢ 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • ▢ 61 g milk any kind – even soy or almond milk will work
    • ▢ 31.25 g all-purpose flour
    • ▢ 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    • ▢ 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
    • ▢ 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • ▢ 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • ▢ 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ▢ 2 tablespoons chocolate chips dark or semi-sweet

    Instructions

    • Place chocolate, butter, and milk in a microwave-safe mug. Microwave on high for 40 seconds and stir to fully combine. If there are still pieces of butter or unmelted chocolate remaining, microwave for another 20 seconds.
    • Let the mixture cool for two minutes.
    • Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, salt, and vanilla to the mug and stir to combine.
    • Place chocolate chips on top.
    • Microwave on high for 70 seconds or until the top of the cake is set and the chips are melted.
    • Eat immediately!

I rated the item zero out of five. I should have anticipated that a mug cake would be unappetizing; however, it served as an opportunity to open a large chocolate bar I received from work, as I was off sick and the chocolate was substantial in size.

Bake something with 5 ingredients or less

I prepared cheese scones with the Spoonie Rebels. Nic organized the event, which featured a Ready Steady Cook-style competition where participants selected ingredients virtually from three different bags. Only three individuals participated in this activity—myself, Sal, and Nic. I chose to make cheese scones for the challenge. Subsequently, Sal, Nic, and I developed a close friendship, and we began participating in Spoonie seasons, where we cook together regularly. My recipes from these experiences were compiled into a cookbook, which I am very pleased with.

Make a cookbook with other Rebels containing your your favourite bakes.

This warrants recognition, and I sincerely thank Sal Onions for including my recipe in the publication. I generally have concerns regarding online safety and unfamiliar contacts; however, both you and Nik Ann have encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and participate in my inaugural Spoonie Rebels event. The experience was significantly more comfortable in a smaller group setting.

    Bring on Rebel fest

These are the cheese scones prior to baking.
These were the cheese scones after they went into the oven

This achievement challenged my comfort zone, and I utilized my Canva training skills to design a logo to top a cupcake.

Photograph of my cake topper, which I designed using Canva.

Overall I rate this badge a 6 out of 10 I enjoyed it more than my first-ever monthly badge I think this is to do with the fact that I love to bake this badge was one of my favourites.

My lunch consisted of a warm, freshly baked flatbread topped with golden, crispy falafel balls, smooth and creamy hummus, and a colorful array of fresh vegetables including crisp cucumbers, ripe tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. As I enjoyed this meal, I discussed it with my grandma while reminiscing about the past. Our conversation also touched on my grandparents’ 60th birthday party, reminiscing about the joyful celebration.

    Overview of this badge.

When I initially undertook this badge, I was somewhat skeptical due to my lack of enthusiasm for the theme. However, upon engaging with the material, I found the experience to be quite enjoyable.

My three favorite activities in this badge are preparing the sprinkle cake, conversing with my grandmother about past experiences, and creating a profile about myself on Canva.

  • The club offers four types of badges: monthly, quarterly, yearly, and merit badges. These will be explained in greater detail within this blog post.

This is an example of what you have to do to gain the monthly badge
    • Monthly badges are among the simplest awards available in the Rebel Badge Club. They typically involve engaging activities such as scavenger hunts, reading or viewing content, and completing a creative task. Participants are usually required to fulfill a specific number of these activities to earn the badge, although there is flexibility to complete additional activities if desired. Such flexibility in activity completion is rarely imposed. This has been my favorite monthly badge thus far. Examples of these badges include the Sports Day badge, the Pirate Badge, and the Rebels Go Wild badge.
This is an example of what you need to do for the quarterly badges
    • Quarterly badges serve to motivate individuals to complete merit badges. Additionally, a bonus 12-week challenge is included to encourage the accomplishment of these badges. Currently, I am working on the ‘Ready Player One’ badge. Other examples include ‘Be Creative’, ‘Inspire 2026’, and ‘The Greatest Show’. I have completed the ‘Film Critic’ badge and plan to pursue badges in ‘Brain Games’, ‘Outdoor Cooking’, and ‘Concise Consumer’. Examples of badges available within a quarterly program include ‘Costume Making’ for ‘Be Creative’, ‘Public Speaker’ for ‘The Greatest Show’, and ‘My Heroes’ for the ‘Inspire 2026’ quarterly badge.
This is an example of what the brand new annual badge looks like. It should take you
    • Yearly/Annual badges-these badges are designed to motivate ongoing achievement. I regard these as akin to New Year’s resolutions, as they are awarded each year. I am pleased to have completed the Rebel Health Check 2026, the 52 books challenge, and the Big Rebel Adventure 2026 (BRA) this year. Other recent accomplishments by fellow Rebels include participating in hiking challenges related to the BRA, presenting a drawing of a duck and a mermaid losing their bicycle race—created by Chief Rebel Charly to illustrate the operation of the Rebel Cup from its inaugural year, titled Best of Rebel Cup #1—and committing to drinking more water as part of the Rebel Health Check 2026.
This looks like a merit badge
    • The final badge I will discuss is the Merit Badge, as it is ultimately the primary reason for our participation, given that we initially purchased the first book to be here.
  • The Maverick Award

    The Maverick Award

The community has shown interest in establishing an award comparable to the Duke of Edinburgh or the Queen’s Guides Award, primarily inspired by the highly active Facebook group and requests from Rebels for an equivalent award so that’s how it all started. However, it is crucial for prospective participants to confirm their commitment to completing the award prior to initiating the process. Eligible individuals must first register on the official website before commencing their Maverick award.

  • Rebel Badge Logo

I joined the Rebel Badge Club because I wanted a hobby to utilize my free time in a productive manner. I initially discovered the organization through a Facebook advertisement and contemplated whether I should sign up for a year. After viewing the advertisement several times, I consulted my parents to verify its legitimacy. Once they provided their approval, I promptly ordered the associated book from Amazon to begin my participation without delay.

To be honest, I now think it would have been better to buy the book from Charly’s shop so that more of the money would go back to supporting the Rebel Badge Club. Since then, I’ve started buying the Kindle version instead. Because of my eyesight, it’s easier for me to read on the Kindle app on my phone, and I can zoom in and out whenever I need to.
