We woke at approximately 7:00 a.m., feeling well rested and prepared for the day ahead. The morning required careful organisation, as we needed to have breakfast, pack our belongings, confirm our travel route, and ensure that we were ready to check out by noon.

Breakfast was served at 9:30 a.m. in the hotel’s comfortable dining area. I ordered an omelette prepared with fresh herbs and melted cheese, accompanied by sliced avocado and a cappuccino with thick, decorative foam which, in my opinion, bore a humorous resemblance to Uncle Steve.

Initially, breakfast was shared quietly by Mum, Dad, and me. As the morning progressed, the dining room gradually became busier, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. By the time the space had filled with other guests, we had finished our meal and returned to our room to complete our packing.

I packed at a measured pace, reluctant to leave such a charming hotel after what had been a particularly memorable stay. Nevertheless, it was time to move on to the next stage of the journey and accept, as the saying goes, the rough with the smooth.

The road to Hermmonus

Once all belongings had been packed, the bill settled, and a final restroom stop completed, we departed for Hermanus. Loading the luggage into the vehicle proved somewhat challenging; however, with careful organisation, we were able to fit everything securely into the car.

The journey to Hermanus was exceptionally scenic, taking us through impressive mountain passes, past sightings of baboons, and along stretches of coastline with remarkable views. It was the kind of drive that naturally encouraged quiet appreciation of the landscape throughout the journey.

Arrival at the hotel

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a member of staff, who assisted us with unloading our luggage using a dedicated trolley. At reception, we were offered refreshing non-alcoholic welcome drinks, which were both thoughtful and unexpectedly enjoyable.

This was a Christmas theme which was in the hotel lobby area.

While Mum and Dad viewed the available rooms, we waited comfortably in the lobby and continued to enjoy our drinks. We were then shown to our accommodation: I shared a room with Daisy, Jack, and Ruby, while Mum and Dad stayed in the largest suite, which included a spacious lounge area.

After briefly unpacking, we visited the on-site restaurant for lunch. I chose the seafood pasta, as the tomato-based sauce immediately appealed to me. The waitress explained that it was prepared with fresh tomatoes, garlic, herbs, shrimp, and mussels, and the dish proved to be exceptionally flavoursome.

Dinner at Chefs Grill

For dinner, we went to Char’d’s Grill & Wine Bar, and I ordered my favourite — calamari and chips. We even did a bit of beer tasting, and to top it all off, we tried a gravy shot (yes, really!) which apparently helps with cold and flu symptoms.

This was the dinner that I had on the evening

After dinner, we headed back to the hotel, where I had a cuppa and my meds before calling it a night. It had been a long travel day, but a good one — filled with laughs, great food, and epic scenery.
